  • If you own a Persian cat that gets brown staining down either side of it's nose, clean it first with warm salt water and then smear just a little vaseline down either side.  It helps stop the brown discharge from going hard -  Pam - Cooyar, Australia

  • When you wash your cat's littler tray out, before putting in the fresh litter just sprinkle a few drops of eucalyptus oil in the tray.  It will help keep the tray smelling fresh for a few days  - Pam - Cooyar, Australia

  • Removal of ticks on dogs or cats - dab the tick with methylated spirits a few times over 1/2 hour (avoiding as much skin as possible).  Dab just a little diluted tea tree oil for antiseptic before and after removal of the tick with tweezers - Jac-Aileen - Nanango, Australia

  • Arthritis Relief for dogs, cats and humans.  Ingredients - brandy (cheapest available) 750 mls, Birds Eye Chillies (small red hot chillies) approx 250 grms.  Remove about a cup of brandy and set aside for now.  Using gloves (saves a lot of tears) and a pair of scissors, cut the chillies into pieces straight into the bottle.  This saves a lot of time and washing of boards.  Once all the chillies are in the bottle, top up with the brandy from the cup.  There will be some over so you can use it to top up after you start using the infusion.  Place the bottle somewhere warm (window sill etc.) and give it a shake at least once a day.  It's ready when the chillies have lost their colour as the oil is now in the brandy carrier.  Once half or more of the chillies have gone to the bottom of the bottle it is ready.  At this stage you can either strain the infusion to remove the chillies or do as I do and leave them in the bottle so they can keep adding to the mixture.  Pour some into a small bottle and using a dropper add to your pet's wet food.  The amount used depends on how bad the arthritis is.  This infusion was originally made for human use.  It is a natural product that helps dissolve the crystals that build up causing pain in the joint.  It has been used by our family for over 130 years - Gai - Kingaroy, Australia
